With the help of Cegal, Procon got a modern technology platform

Procon Solution wants to develop the world's best software for the travel industry. With help from Cegal, Procon has now got a modern IT platform that allows the Danes to realize their goal.

For decades, Danish Procon Solutions has developed and delivered smart applications to the tourism industry. The goal is to create business systems that are user-friendly, intuitive, that help employees in the tourism industry to become more productive and work smarter. The Danish technology company has succeeded well in this.

Today, Procon has customers all over the world. This places great demands on uptime, that the IT platform can be scaled and that users do not experience delays. To secure these functions, Procon had to modernize its IT infrastructure and move it to the cloud.

In 2021, Procon entered into a successful partnership with Cegal to modernize its existing IT infrastructure, including by moving applications and databases to the cloud.

The tourism industry is literally in constant motion. Tough competition, constant changes related to destinations and trends and large fluctuations in currency and other premises, present many challenges for the players in the tourism industry.

To survive, you need software that allows you to follow the fluctuations. Therefore, Procon Solution has developed a SaaS solution (Software as a Service) that allows travel agencies to quickly adapt to new market conditions and demands from their customers.

"While the travel industry is in constant motion, the IT industry can sometimes seem a bit stuck. IT is complex and business critical. That is why changes do not happen at a very fast pace", says COO in Procon Solution, Jacob Stensgaard.

He mentions that Procon's customers range from Europe and North America to Asia and South Africa. Whether the customer is in a European city with fast broadband or in a rural area with poor internet connection, the systems must work.

In addition, Procon's applications handle confidential data such as credit card information. This means that the applications must comply with requirements and rules from international and local authorities and from card providers such as the PCI (Payment Card Industry) requirements.

Successful collaboration with Cegal

The collaboration with Cegal has been successful, according to Jacob Stensgaard in Procon.

We had the specific requirement to be present all over the world. By moving our IT platform to the cloud, our applications would be limitless. We needed a solid IT partner for the cloud migration and Cegal really has been just that.

Cegal was responsible for the entire cloud migration process to Oracle Cloud, including everything from preparation of a business model, evaluation of the alternatives, "lift and shift" migration to "go live" and subsequent operation and maintenance.

Procon Solutions' own software solution requires both Oracle and Microsoft technology, and the partners therefore chose a multi-cloud architecture in which Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and Microsoft Azure are closely integrated.

It really says something about the flexibility and professionalism of the Cegal consultants when they managed to come up with a solution that fit us perfectly.

Two consultants from Cegal have been involved in the project, and although the pandemic caused some meetings to take place online, there were also a number of physical meetings.

"Due to our specific requirements, it was necessary for us to have some form of project management so that we could see which direction we were moving in. At the same time, Cegal's consultants gave useful advice on how the tasks could be solved," says Stensgaard.

He emphasizes that the whole process has been a success.

"Even though in some areas we eventually realized that the project was going in the wrong direction, we learned some lessons that we took with us moving forward", he says.

Experienced and honest consultants

Today, Cegal delivers operation and maintenance of the solution, and as a result of the migration to Oracle Cloud, Procon has chosen to implement Cegal's monitoring solution Basecare Discover™.

"It keeps an eye on the platform and reacts proactively to any alarms that may occur", Jacob Stensgaard explains.

Customers want to experience greater flexibility

Jacob Stensgaard highlights scalability as the biggest advantage of the new cloud solution. Procon can now use the same infrastructure when the Danish company enters a new market or a new region.

The cloud is more scalable and we can enter new markets without incurring large extra costs. Being able to be a global player is very important to us.

When asked about what advantages Procon Solution's customers will experience after the cloud migration, Jacob Stensgaard answers without hesitation:

"They will undoubtedly have greater flexibility related to what can be done. The access to our software becomes easier."

Thus, it is also an advantage for those customers who are on-premise. Jacob Stensgaard mentions that Procon is facing the need to establish a new data center in South Africa.

"Now, these customers do not need to have our applications on local servers. Now we can offer an equally good solution in the cloud", he concludes.
