Cegal inspires girls to choose a career in tech hosting coding workshops at the yearly technology camp for girls in Stavanger, Bergen, Gjøvik and Oslo.

For the 7th time, TENK Tech Camp was hosted on August 7th and 8th 2024 all across Norway with 850 girls aged 13-19 attending in eight cities. As a global and diverse technology powerhouse, we were proud to be national sponsor again this year and show the exciting world of tech to girls in middle school and high school.

At Cegal, we believe equity is the key to a diverse, equal, and including workplace. Currently, 22% of all Cegalians are women and we work actively to increase that number. Being inclusive is not only part of our values and who we are, research shows that a diverse workforce with gender balance leads to happier employees, increased productivity and innovation.

Our own internal network Women at Cegal works towards promoting gender diversity and equity in our own organization, in the tech industry and such. By hosting different events and activities, we create a platform for everyone in Cegal to connect, share experiences, and support each other in their personal and professional development.

TENK tech camps slogan is “for girls shaping the future”, which perfectly alignes with our mission to inspire the future women in tech. We are very proud to be national sponsor of this fantastic initiative!

Cegal Workshops across Norway

At our workshops, girls learned how to code using MIT's App Inventor, which lets you easily build apps using block code technology. A great design tool that sparked the girls’ creativity and showed that coding can be a lot of fun.

In Stavanger, the workshops were held at Vitenfabrikken in Sandnes with over 300 girls attending. Our local Cegal ladies Aleksandra Marszalek, Adelaida Ures Sævild and Corinna Wagner held the workshop on Friday along with other local sponsors and mentors. In Oslo, the camp took place at the Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology with 250 girls attending. Our Senior Software Developer Ellina Ivleva held workshops for the girls on Thursday and Friday.

In Bergen, the girls spent the workshop days at the public library supported by Milena Radulovic who works as a Database consultant at our Bergen office. In Gjøvik/Innlandet, the TENK Tech Camp was arranged for the first time this year. Our local Cegal ladies Bente Akre, Merete Myren and Lisa Benedicte Greenquist spent exciting two days at Vitensenteret Innlandet and were impressed with the event coordination. Lisa also joined a couch talk sharing her experiences as manager for our tech consultants and integration teams.

We are delighted with the program at Innlandet's first TENK Tech Camp! There was something for everyone, an exciting way to learn about possible careers in Tech. We have received feedback from the girls that the best thing about the event is that they have gotten to know other girls who have the same interests as themselves.

May Lise Igelsrud from Vitensenteret Innlandet

Thanks to everyone attending and empowering the next generation of women in technology, we are already looking forward to next year!
