ETL stands for extract, transform and load – which is three functions combined in one tool. ETL is used to manage different types of data. When you want to use your data for analysis, you can therefore use an ETL process, which automates, integrates and ensures the quality of data from a company's various systems and data sources.
When using an ETL process, it is ensured that all kinds of data, regardless of which systems they come from, are converted into correct format for storage, so that it can be used in an overall structured way in a Data Warehouse and for future reference purposes.
When data is ETL processed and related to each other, data can be divided up and presented in so-called data marts. Data marts are data set out for selected areas of the business. These data marts can then be used by the end user for either analysis, reporting or determined data mining. Data insight is important for all kinds of companies and therefore an ETL process is crucial in relation to be able to transform data into concrete knowledge and use it in business.
Cegal uses ETL processes in many larger Data Warehouse projects with our customers, as an ETL tool makes data management tasks much easier and improves data storage.
