What does a typical workday look like to you?

A typical working day starts with a call from the receptionist that tells me that the test candidate has arrived. I meet the candidate and offer coffee before explaining the routines and what will happen. Then the candidate starts the test.

One of my tasks is to make plans for when tests can be carried out, both for internal and external candidates. I also have a bit of coordination work with informing my colleagues about which tests are available at different times.

Towards the end of the working day, I prepare for the next day and always deliver lists to reception about which candidates are coming the following day.

Which technologies do you work with?

I mainly work with Pearson VUE's certification system. There, times are opened for certifications to be taken before the candidates are linked up with which test they will take and at what time.

Pearson VUE is American. They usually operate on a slightly larger level, and with a slightly different level of trust than we have in Norway. The security is thus bordering on what we here would call paranoid. As a test administrator, one must e.g. inspect the glasses of test takers to make sure they cannot contain a camera or are Google glass glasses. 🤓

Can you tell us something more about our Test Centre?

The platform we use has thousands of tests available. The level of difficulty and need for preparations varies greatly.  But if you take the technical tests, of which we clearly run most of, it is laid down by the suppliers that you must prove that you know the product and that you have worked with it. So you don't start with an exam to be able to start using the product. Those who have worked less on something must therefore study more to be able to pass the test. The vast majority of tests are multiple-choice, but there is also an element of labs, i.e. a laboratory in PC form, in several recent technical tests.

Is there anything else we should know about you?

I fell head over heals in love with golf again for a couple of years ago. I used to play golf, but spent some years off the green, and but now I am back at it. To the extent I'm having a hard time to prioritize other activities like working out, volunteering as the manager for our joint ownership where I live, and washing my car! ⛳
