There were several events that led to Storstrøms Forsikring contacting Cegal. First, the insurance company has doubled its turnover in the last six years, and the solid growth has meant many new employees and greater demands to the company’s own IT capacity and system monitoring. Secondly, Storstrøms Forsikring experienced a computer crash last summer that affected critical business systems.
“Of course, this happened while I was on summer vacation. This computer crash really made me think, because if something like this happens, we can’t sell insurance or do anything for our customers. That’s why I contacted Cegal”, says Claes-Jan Wolff.

The history of the Danish insurance company Storstrøms Forsikring dates back to 1845. Originally, the company was called Møns Brandforsikring, and in 2002 they merged with another traditional company called Marker Madsen.
When Storstrøms Forsikring got a new management team six years ago they changed their strategy. Storstrøms Forsikring used to be defensive of the company’s customers, but now they are more proactive and try to reach out to new customers. This has resulted in an enormous growth, and soon they are moving from an old brick villa in Stege, to a new building in Farø – 11 miles south of Copenhagen.
Storstrøms Forsikring has few IT employees internally in the organization, and it has been a priority for these employees to contribute to the development of the business and come up with new solutions for customers – instead of taking care of IT operations.
“It is very important that our customers experience good and stable service. That’s why we chose to sign a Managed Services agreement with Cegal to operate, maintain and monitor our platform”, says Claes-Jan Wolff.
As part of the Managed Services agreement, Storstrøms Forsikring chose to implement a monitoring solution, that monitors the IT platform and responds proactively to any alarms that may arise.
“Today, our customers experience greater robustness in our systems and our collaboration with Cegal gives us less to worry about, says the CIO.

At first, Cegal performed a Health Check together with Storstrøms Forsikring to get an overview of the company’s current platform in relation to support matrix, setup related to best practice, licensing, and security. Then, the monitoring of Storstrøms Forsikring’s systems was implemented.
“It was almost plug-and-play. When our hosting partner was ready, we just had to press the button, and off we went. We were in the air with the monitoring system after a week”, says Claes-Jan Wolff.
Ha adds that Cegal has been “deeply professional” throughout the process.

He believes the collaboration is a good example of outsourcing the tasks you’re not experts at.
