More AI in Oracle Cloud and launch of Oracle Analytic Cloud
- Covid showed us that it is critical to be flexible and able to adapt quickly to changes. The pandemic showed us how important it is to have a strong digital connection to suppliers, employees, and customers. This is how Safra Catz, Oracle's CEO, opened this year's CloudWorld in London.
CloudWorld is Oracle's most important annual conference. The conference starts in Las Vegas in the fall and is then taken on tour to major cities in Europe, Asia, and South America. On April 19, 2023, the conference visited London.
"One of the highlights of the conference was Safra Catz's keynote speech, where she emphasized the importance of cloud technology, information, data analysis, and AI (Artificial Intelligence) in transforming businesses and industries to become more efficient, profitable, and sustainable," says Asbjørn Tonstad, CTO (Chief Technology Officer) at Cegal. He and several colleagues visited CloudWorld in London.
"Oracle is the underlying platform that enables businesses around the world to operate effectively. Oracle is like a mirror that reflects the shine when our customers shine," said Safra Catz, CEO of Oracle in London.
Catz also highlighted Oracle's focus on sustainability and said that the company will work to reduce its carbon footprint and support green technologies. By moving infrastructure services and applications to the cloud, businesses become more sustainable because servers and devices are used much more efficiently in a cloud data center than in their own data centers, known as on-prem.
"Some of our customers report that their servers only use a few percent of the total performance," said Safra Catz in London.
Using the cloud, businesses can reduce power consumption related to IT services by over 80% and simultaneously reduce CO2 emissions to zero, according to a report from IDC. Read more here.
AWS-OCI integration and even more AI in Oracle Cloud
Asbjørn Tonstad at Cegal highlights some of the news that were announced during Oracle CloudWorld in London and generated the most buzz.
"Oracle Alloy allows users to use the entire OCI (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure) in their own data centers, while an Oracle-certified partner handles administration. This can be a good option for public or private organizations that cannot use commercial cloud data centers due to regulations"
Asbjørn Tonstad, CTO Cegal
Oracle also presented updates to its AI (Artificial Intelligence) and machine learning platforms, Oracle AI Platform and Oracle Machine Learning. These platforms give businesses the ability to develop and implement advanced AI algorithms and models in their applications.
Tonstad also highlights closer integration between Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Oracle Cloud:
"Integration between AWS and OCI, coming later this fall, allows users to connect AWS services with services and applications in Oracle Cloud. Another big announcement was Oracle Analytic Cloud, which is a complete data analytics platform that provides better data control and complete data analysis on a single platform. The platform is suitable for both large and small businesses and can be installed on-premises or in the cloud, regardless of whether it is Oracle, Amazon, Microsoft, or other cloud platforms," Tonstad adds.
The next Oracle CloudWorld will take place in Las Vegas from September 18-21, 2023, before the conference returns to Europe in 2024.
Oracle is a sponsor of the Formula 1 car driven by Max Verstappen. The car was on display at Oracle CloudWorld.
