How Cegal helps Save The Children improving learning environments
In 2023, Cegal partnered with Save the Children and assisted with technology expertise to improve the ILET - Improving Learning Environments Together - application. ILET enables local schools and communities to collect data for joint decision-making and to strengthen learning environments during emergencies. This is one way to ensure access to quality education despite volatile and chaotic situations.
Cegal allows employees to work pro bono on so-called goosebump projects. In 2023, we started a three-year partnership with Save the Children Norway as their Ed-Tech partner, aiming to assist with technology and expertise, so that children in conflict areas would have access to education.

ILET- Improving Learning Environments Together
Millions of children are being robbed of an education simply because of who they are or where they live - deprived of learning opportunities because of emergencies, extreme poverty, or discrimination. Without a quality basic education, children are less likely to escape the cycle of poverty and may never have the opportunity to fulfill their potential. In 2023, Cegal partnered with Save the Children and assisted with technology expertise to improve the ILET application to help communities in emergencies worldwide.
Developed by Save the Children Norway in 2018, ILET is an application enabling local schools and communities to collect data for joint decision-making and to strengthen learning environments during emergencies - to ensure access to quality education - despite volatile and chaotic situations. The application was designed to replace the previously time-consuming, error-prone paper-based system with a tool that collects data offline and uploads it to a central database for analysis. ILET aims to empower local communities to improve learning quality and generate and build capacity at the community level for dynamic and sustainable action in school improvement and development.

Cegal's contribution and impact
Since 2021, several country partners reported issues uploading data collected to the central database, thus voiding ILET's offline functionality. The use of ILET was reduced and as a result, the quality of education was reduced. Despite several attempts to solve the problem, Save the Children Norway could not confirm the source of the problem for almost two years.
The testing regime developed and deployed by Cegal was instrumental in highlighting several issues challenging ILET. With Cegal's support, Save the Children could update and re-deploy a new version of the ILET app, providing partial resolution for several country partners. Cegal's support in identifying challenges provided Save the Children with a comprehensive overview of options and feasibility, thus informing Save the Children on improvements for continued use - hence giving access to and quality of education in emergencies.
Overall, the collaboration between Cegal and Save The Children has been a fruitful learning experience that we very much appreciate and look forward to continuing.
