Cost-effective digitization with Low Code and Oracle APEX

With APEX, Oracle's Low Code platform, you can quickly and cost-effectively develop applications and solutions that bring immediate value to your business. With the help of AI, "Low Code" is taking over from traditional application development.

Oracle APEX is the world's most popular low-code enterprise application platform and allows companies to build scalable, secure web and mobile apps, with world-class features, that can be deployed anywhere.

This is how Oracle promotes its "Low Code" platform, APEX:

Build business apps 20x faster with 100x less code than with regular development tools.

With APEX, you can develop good, user-friendly solutions for a variety of applications, whether it's an app with several thousand daily users or automating and streamlining internal manual work processes in a small department.
Below are some applications for APEX:

  • Develop apps for mobile or as a cloud service.
  • Modernizing Oracle Forms solutions
  • Sharing data with external parties (customers or partners), such as order tracking, stock status etc.
  • Turn spreadsheets into a system. Many (all?) businesses have business-critical spreadsheets that should be digitized and replaced by an application.
  • Extend and customize ERP systems to your business' specific needs and processes.
  • Reporting and dashboards. Create apps that show interactive reports and status in real time.

Low Code as the development platform of the future

To show some concrete opportunities in APEX and the business value the platform can provide, Cegal and Oracle recently organized the seminar "Low Code as the development platform of the future".

The seminar began with Bjarte Drivenes from Oracle demonstrating how APEX and AI have transformed Oracle's approach to developing its applications. Following this, Christian Haugstvedt Eide from Jærmuseet and Johnny Bjørnstad from Cegal showcased a customized solution for room reservations and tailored educational programs at their museums.
Øyvind Karlsen from Worley Rosenberg and Bente Akre from Cegal discussed how APEX was employed to modernize an old data solution for "Quality Control" (QC), which involves handling large data volumes and complex business logic, including calculations and the generation of final documentation for project handovers to clients. Worley Rosenberg previously had a solution based on Oracle Forms.

Over 10 years of experience

Cegal has been working with APEX for over ten years and shared its experience with APEX Low Code from several projects. Over the years, Cegal has built up its own "toolbox". This is functionality that most projects need to develop the data solutions of the future. Examples were shown of integrations with Microsoft calendar, email and Active Directory/EntraID for authentication/authorization (single-sign-on), mass distribution of email and SMS and push notifications.

Using APEX, developers can quickly develop and deploy easy-to-use and useful apps that solve real problems and provide immediate value. Low code platforms like APEX are an excellent way to digitize manual and cumbersome business processes.

Here are some of the benefits of the APEX platform:

  • Fast development: With an intuitive interface and ready-made templates, it is very easy to build applications. This significantly reduces development time, as well as the number and type of resources required.
  • Cost-effective: You can save money by building apps with your own resources instead of outsourcing development or buying expensive software solutions.
  • Integration with the Oracle platform and databases and third-party solutions.
  • Enhanced productivity: You can build apps that automate manual processes, freeing up time and improving efficiency.
  • Scalability: Since the apps are in the cloud, they can easily scale to meet increasing usage, while the platform is secure and supports enterprise management tools.
  • Flexible: APEX apps can be created as both web and mobile applications. This means that users can access the apps anywhere and at any time.
