What is ODiSI?

One Dimensional Stochastic Inversion (ODiSI) is an innovative approach to seismic inversion. Initially developed by BP, ODiSI is a method that produces high-quality reservoir property estimates with associated uncertainties. Associating all captured prior knowledge about a given field, prospect, or reservoir, ODiSI builds a robust and comprehensive model of the subsurface through pseudo-wells.

ODiSI results provide several key advantages to geoscientists. Perhaps the most significant is that it is relatively simple to understand and employ. Only the most robust prior geological information extracted from well-data and understood reservoir properties drive the inversion process, giving the user complete control and enabling them to iteratively QC each step of the process.

Cegal and ODiSI

Initially developed by BP, and later re-engineered as a Petrel E&P software platform plug-in by Cegal, Blueback ODiSI is a robust, rigorous, and accessible solution for seismic inversion. The process is based on geological concepts and captures all the prior knowledge about a given field, prospect, or reservoir.  Blueback ODiSI is now integrated into Cegal’s new software, Blueback Avary, which aims to optimize geophysical prospect de-risking or reservoir characterization in a production setting.
