Enova is a state-owned enterprise which aims to contribute to more efficient and renewable energy and climate solutions. Amongst other things, Enova works to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and supports technological development which contributes to this. Enova supports the development of energy and climate technology, energy-efficient solutions, and energy measures which help to increase security of supply.
Enova was established in 2001 and is organisationally placed under the Ministry of Climate and Environment. It has its head office in Trondheim. The organisation is financed via funding allocated from the Energy Fund. The available funds must be used as cost-effectively as possible to achieve the government's goals stipulated for the operation by the government at any one time. The Energy Fund is financed through returns from the Fund for Climate, Renewable Energy and Energy Transition. The Energy Fund is also part-financed through the grid premium on electricity bills. In total, this gives Enova a disposable budget of between NOK 2 and 3 billion per year.
