Bard is Google's answer to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Microsoft’s Bing Chat. It is a generative AI search and chatbot that makes use of LLMs (Large Language Models) to generate a response to the user. Bard is utilizing a lightweight and optimized version of Google's language model called LAMDA (Language Model for Dialogue Applications).
Bard acts as an extended arm to Google's search function, through a chat function it can look up information and deliver it in the form of a conversation. The mix of search and generative AI makes it more like Microsoft Bing Chat than Chat GPT that does not have updated information about recent events.
Bard was launched as a private preview in some markets in January 2023 and can be accessed by joining a waiting list.
