Automation, or mechanisation, is the technology that gets systems to function with little or no human intervention. Automation is used in all areas where there is a desire to replace human labour with autonomous systems, e.g. in industry, trade, transport, etc.
Automation was first introduced during the industrial revolution in the late 18th century. At the time, automation primarily involved the use of machinery to replace human muscle power. The major breakthrough for automation came during the 1920s with Henry Ford’s car assembly line in the USA. The term ‘automation’ became commonplace during the First World War.
At Cegal, we help our customers to automate processes with the aim of being faster, more efficient and more precise.
