Ansible is a IT (Information Technology) automation platform that makes your applications and systems easier to implement and maintain. Ansible is based on open-source code and can automate everything from code deployment to network configuration and cloud management in a language that is easy to understand even for someone who is not particularly good at coding.
Originally written by Michael DeHaan, Ansible was acquired by Red Hat in 2015. Ansible is designed to configure both Unix-like systems as well as Microsoft Windows. Ansible is agentless and relies on temporary connections via Secure Shell (SSH) or Windows Remote Management, which allow PowerShell execution. Ansible runs on most Unix-like systems capable of running Python, including Windows with the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) installed. The system configuration is partially defined with its own declarative language.
